The Basketball
The ball for official games consists of leather and is pumped with
air. It is 75-78 cm in circumference and weighs 600-650 gr. The First Referee
tests the ball for suitability before the start of the game.

Uniform shirt and coloured shorts
are worn. Teams must have two kits available, one dark-coloured and one
light-coloured (normally white), so as to wear the one appropriate depending on
the opponents colours. The players number and team (and,
optionally, their name) are marked on the shirt. Players number The
players number is his or her identification for the duration of the game
and must appear on the front of the shirt (normally in small characters on the
upper left part) and on the back of the shirt (normally in large characters in
the centre).
Shoes
The shoes are made of leather and need to
firmly support the ankles, which are vulnerable to injury. They usually have
additions such as air soles or built-in ankle supports, in order to give the
athlete greater protection from fatigue, jumping and other movements.
The Playing Court
The
playing court for Basketball games is a hard, flat, and rectangular surface
free of obstacles, 28 metres long and 15 metres wide. (In official national and
international games a wooden floor is used).

Men
The draw for the Men's Olympic Tournament was held on Saturday 8 November 2003
in Madrid. The 12 teams that will compete in the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games are:
Angola, Argentina, Australia, China, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, New Zealand,
Puerto Rico, Serbia and Montenegro, Spain, and the USA. The first four teams of
each group will qualify for the quarter finals.
Women
The draw of the qualifying groups and
competition schedule of the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament took place at
the ATHENS 2004 headquarters. The 12 teams that will compete in the ATHENS 2004
Olympic Games are: Russia, Nigeria, Japan, Greece, Australia, Brazil,USA,
China, Spain, Czech Republic, Korea and New Zealand
